Restoration

Restoring forests in areas of high mountain pine beetle mortality is part of our effort to create more sustainable, healthy forests. To this purpose we have completed several small logging projects on U.S. Forest Service land.

In Lodgepole forests where logging has occurred, one of primary issues of concern is the return of overly dense regeneration of small diameter trees which reduce ground cover and are not ecologically beneficial on a landscape scale. In those locations FHTF volunteers are available to thin young seedlings and saplings in order to reduce density and promote more robust and healthy growth.
